Cynthiana is a beautiful city, situated in Harrison County, Kentucky. For those of you who do not know, Kentucky can be found in the United States.
Its population is not big, thought of being at above 6,000 people. It is considered the county seat of Harrison County, being located between Cincinnati and Lexington.
Cynthiana was named after Cynthia and Anna Harrison, who have donated to land.
Its history is rather poor, but it was place for two major battles during the American Civil War.
Maybe even more interesting in the city’s history is the fact that in 1877 a meteorite fell in Cynthiana, KY.
In 1977, however, the city was flooded and important parts were severely damaged by waters.
According to recent investigations, Cynthiana has a total area of about 8 square kilometers, and all of it is land.
7 public schools could be found in Harrison County, including Elementary, Middle, Technical, and High Schools. Unfortunately, or maybe fortunately for some, there is only one private school there, whose name is St. Edward School.
As it was emphasized above, there are around 6000 people in Cynthiana , grouped into over 1500 families. The population density was over 700 persons per square kilometers in 2000, and the racial makeup, although is mostly formed by white people, there are also African Americans, Native Americans, Asians, Pacific Islanders and other such races.
The median age is about 40 years, and females dominate the town, because for 80 males there are 100 females.
Unfortunately, over 15% of the population of Cynthiana, KY is considered as living in poverty.
Incredible is the fact that the post-it notes were originally developed and patented in Cynthiana, and until the patent expired in late 90’s, Cynthiana was the only town to produce Post-It notes worldwide.
All these interesting facts make Cynthiana, KY a place which is worth of being visited.
